Since the launch of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including divine entities, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might seem unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
First, the group understands precisely where to head next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
Casimir then paid off his debts and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile place.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could enable the party enter places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor vowed a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners tables.
Fans can expect learning which players will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
