Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
